socially unconscious

Picture 1

It’s not a “new” concept, but rather an actively used one to be “socially conscious” . Companies endeavor to ensure their corporations are making socially conscious efforts to stay in the “in crowd”, and on occasion – for the right reasons. The “in crowd” mentality is where the socially unconscious part comes in.

The human race is hit and miss with this concept of social consciousness. I would almost dare to say we largely live a move socially UNconscious lifestyle. Our autopilot runs, and ruins, our lives. Living consciously takes some serious effort, which the majority of us excuse away due to lack of time available to them to make “better” choices.

I enjoy the varied and valiant qualities of the friends I surround myself with. Having encountered, dated, and befriended various vegetarians and vegans, this is a socially conscious lifestyle which I greatly admire.

I maintained a pesco-vegetarian (fish eating only) lifestyle for 5 years, and selfishly, I felt GREAT. Not only physically, but mentally. After educating myself on what goes on in the meat industry (poultry included!), I did not want to participate in the active hurt and harm and murder or innocent animals who’s sole-purpose in life was for consumption.

Since then I’ve clearly reverted back to a less-conscious lifestyle, and I neither judge those, nor apologize for my decision. Not out of arrogance, but because, until I’m willing to change it …saying I’m sorry for something I do without changing it is ultra-hypocritical.

It’s my permissible “sin”, but I try as much as possible to purchase free range. I excuse myself in this thinking that if AT LEAST these animals have a humane and animal-like life as possible …then at least they weren’t simply slaves to the food corporations who enclose and encase these living breathing, feelings animals in conditions that are purely barbaric and essentially evil.

Turning a blind eye to the things we don’t HAVE to think about it simple, opening our eyes to the things we should think about is conscious living. I challenge us all to stop living a socially unconscious lifestyle and choose consciously – our means to our end.

authentic delusions

Picture 1

There’s a serious desire for authenticity in society today. Everyone wants to be unique, and in striving to do so, it seems everyone is simply being uniquely the same…or equally un-unique if you will.

Authenticity is a hard road to walk. Being your true self means knowing who you truly are, and knowing who you truly are means being true to yourself. True story :)

“The truth will set you free” …a commonly known phrase coined from the bible. This could take many directions as it lends itself to “truth”, but for sake of my current argument lets relate it to the truth of who we are at our core.

I’ve known people to pretend to be something they’re not, or put on a front to give a perceptually “better” appearance of themselves, but in the end the pretending and fronting will be penetrated or faulter, and those around you will see who you really are. So why not save everyone the time, and yourself the “face” …and just be your authentic you?

On the heels of Valentines, I feel the need to throw out a reminder …that you will only be able to fully love, if you firstly love yourself. The real you. The authentic you. No delusions of who you wish yourself to be …although aspiring to be more is of course acceptable and admirable.

“To thine own self be true” …this could not be more fitting a phrase. Part of the pleasure in life is getting to know, and grow YOU. Be authentic and leave the delusions for the delusional …hopefully their medication will set them free!

the need to want

Picture 7

Needs are a lack of what you don’t have and as such your focus is on lack instead of abundance (gratitude for what you do have). Whereas, wants are desires which you attract into your life by reflecting on what you desire …that which would feel good to be added to in your perceived abundant life.

I guess that’s where aspiring comes in. When you aspire to be more, do more, or have more it more inline with your aspirations or inspirations …whereas, when you want more it’s a very rigid way to go about acquiring. I do believe those who want will gain, but in an unnatural and often unnerving way of doing so.

Attracting and obtaining are two different things. Attracting is like a magnet adhering to what it’s meant to adhere to. Obtaining can also be like a magnet, and if your holding onto a magnet with a negative force, then the energy output in obtaining whatever it is your obtaining requires additional energy, as it’s not a natural fit or attraction.

Relationships are the perfect example of this. So many people force a relationship together because of things such as money or looks or other exterior factors which are not based on true attraction, and these couples often find themselves working EXTRA hard to be in this relationships. One of my friends once told me that a relationship should be easy, which I of course jumped down his throat for as they are anything but. Reflecting on that, he was absolutely right. A relationship should flow, it should fit, it should not be forced. Of course it takes work (and LOTS of it) …but a “working together” type of work, not an uphill battle kind.

When you let life flow, it will naturally and gracefully run its waters over the rocks and curves of life. Whether your life is a babbling brook or a ranging river …it all flows into one large body of water …otherwise known as life. So building dams and forcing your stream into an unnatural bend won’t fix the problem, it will just hold your flow at bay until a natural disaster happens and it regains momentum down its natural path.

We could learn a lot from nature. Nature doesn’t have needs that nature itself does not address, it only wants to be nature because that what it’s intended to be. Shelter food and water, basic needs …I’m not denying you those, I’m talking about filling a void to meet a need, that’s when disaster strikes. Don’t expect others to fill your void, that’s for you to do. Adding another to your life should enhance it, not complete it.

Results show where energy flows. Focus on your desires, not your needs, and see the difference positive energy makes :)
