So how the hell was your Valentines? Did that kid prick you with the sharp stick of his? Yeah many hoped for more, most settled for less…this is the reality of our modern day romance system.
However, at some point we have to wonder what should really take precedence in the romance department, and what we should simply respect about our partner in the relationship sector. Core values vs relationship perks…this is the never-ending battle which goes on in ones mind.
Core values are comprised of, but not limited to; honesty, integrity, character (things they do when no one else is looking), stability etc. Those “value items” which ease your mind in knowing you can trust that person with your life.
Relationship perks are those romantic nuances which most girls drool over. Candlelit dinners prepared lovingly by your main squeeze, coupled with decadent conversation. Surprise get-aways with the added touch of “your bags are packed just bring ‘insert sickeningly sweet nickname here’ ”. Notes left on occasion describing the importance of you and your blessed relationship. Little blue boxes from ‘you-know-where’ for ‘you-know-who’. Even right down to the simplicity of remembering your regular order at Stabucks and grabbing it for you before heading off to work. Or your favourite colour presented to you in the way of your favourite flower. The list goes on and on and is essentially about the details. THE DETAILS PEOPLE…why are those so hard to remember? Sigh…I digress.
BUT…yes, here’s the but…if you have all that, but not the core qualities – would you settle for a smile on your face without the trust in your heart? Would you turn a blind eye yet make way for the blinding bling of “things” instead? Many do. I don’t judge. I’ve had it both ways, I prefer the combo full meal deal myself, but to be quite honest, I have yet to find such a man…or rather a man who I clicked with…because along with aaaaaaaaall this (maniacal hand gesture included) …you still need that little known thing I like to call chemistry.
So what’s It gonna be folks…presence or presents? You decide. If you find ‘em both lock ‘em down and enjoy the rest of your life, you’ve just won the living lottery!
